Help!!! My iPhone is Padlocked !

I have purchased a PAYG iPhone 3G 8GB and am trying to use it with a 3G O2 Sim Card.

It turns on ans has a padlock on the screen and says service unavailable. What have i done?

Do i need to activate the phone with the original sim before using another?

Does the sim card have a security code assigned to it?

There are a series of numbers on the back of the sim supplied with the iphone.

There is also a SSN number on the card it was stuck into.

I believe it has to be activated, thus connecting it to iTunes, although id probably contact O2 before doing so.

Do i need to activate it with the original sim first and then add the contract sim or can i activate it with my contract sim.

Activate it with the sim it came with to be on the safe side, thats what everyone else seems to be doing.

How come i have made 3 recent threads regarding the iphone and each one has appeared as moved, even though they were all placed in the Mobile Phone section in the first place ????

Ah i see its in the Apple Hardware bit now, not convinced its the right place cos it IS a mobile

Its only the 2G iPhone you can use any O2 sim in?

But yes it needs to be activated with the original O2 sim.
