i had very tight thighs/quads/hamstrings, cant touch the floor. went to a physio therapist and was shown lots of different stretches all of which are mentioned earlier in the thread. the main thing i remember was that for the muscle to adapt and change its shape you need to be holding the stretch for 25/30 secs. any less and the muscle wont remember it if that makes sense
Although my leg are no where near the size of yours I too suffer from very similar afflictions lower back pain, can't touch my toes etc. I went to see a friend who is a physio and he noted that it was due to poor core strength and ridiculously tight hamstrings that I was experiencing lower back pain.
As such I have recently been concentrating on plenty of stretches and lower back work outs (good mornings etc) I have noticed a dramatic increase in flexibility in just a short amount of time (2 weeks) stretching at least 3 times a day before and after workouts.
I'd recommend seeing a physio to check that you are ok still but definately start stretching more. It's worth the effort I no longer appear to suffer from back pain and I am now about 2 inches from my toes!!!!! The important thing is don't bounce when you stretch!
