Hi,

My computer was fine until I used the power supply in another build. Instead of moving the power supply to the other case I just cabled the atx12 2x4 and main psu connector to the other pc. Other pc built fine, nice and happy so I start to tidy my pc back together. As I'm putting the cover on I thought I saw a small flash, pc carried on fine so I thought it must've been my old eyes. Started screwing the side cover in paying more attention than normal i notice arcing, pc shuts down. Any ideas ? The only changes were the atx cables being moved to the other case leaving the psu in situ in my case. The arcing is a new feature...

Why did you use your PSU on the other PC? Did the other PC's PSU fail and you were checking to see if the other PC's mobo, etc, were still working ?

Yup the other pc build had a previously good working tagan 480w psu pulled from a working old pc. The new build was an asus p8p67, 2500 CPU and an amd 5450. By using my psu I proved the old tagan had finally given up the ghost. Built the new build with my own psu in my case with the atx cables moved across to the new case + a sata power cable. Install fine, installed new psu in to new build and that's working perfectly now. I suspect there might be a short/screw in my case somewhere so I'm going to strip it all outand see what's going on. Would rather not as my wife is expecting all the pc bits all over the dining room floor to be gone and me having a BBQ ready for her return...

Hi, the PSU which you tried on the other PC with it arcing it may be faulty now if you have had a short in your case.

Try this disconnect all the cable's from the mobo, use a paperclip to connect the green wire's connector of the 24 pin connector to one of black wire's connectors. You can turn on your power supply without having it connected to the motherboard, if it starts check to see if its still arcing or get a burning smell do not use that PSU.

CHECK this video out FIRST this will show you HOW -
