We are trying to find the name of an actor and it has been driving us crazy all day!

German actor, starred in lots of WW2 movies (of the 60s and 70s?) typical Germanic features, blonde hair but really bright pale blue eyes...maybe quite a square jaw too.

Usually played a German officer...we can picture him, but our googlefu seems weak and no matter how many ww2 films I've checked on IMDb, sods law dictates he's not in them!

im guessing its Karl-Otto Alberty

Wolf Kahler?

Probably best known for his work in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Incidentally, he was my mate's dad at secondary school. Nice guy and totally not a mental nazi as far as I know :D

Was also the voice of the German scientist guy in Crysis 3.

Oh, and how could I forget this? He played the German Ambassador in the Ferrero Roche advert, uttering the famous line "Excellente!" :D *quote from imdb

Neither of those two unfortunately.

My gf and her mum met him ~1980 (he was quite old then, grey hair etc) and they are saying his very pale blue eyes were his striking feature

They can both picture him but can't remember what film(s) he was in.

Curd Jurgens had pale blue eyes. But not as blue as hardy Kruger who was known for his eye colour.

Are you sure he was German.

Pretty sure, gf and mum are German and he spoke to them in German when they met, so he wasn't an English actor playing a german

She's saying Karl-Otto and Anton Diffring are very close to how he looks, but neither of them :-/

Her mum mentioned submarine/u-boat film(s)...though wasn't sure

Wolfgang Preiss
Hans Christian Blech
Günter Meisner
Albert Lieven

Scraping the barrel here and not really any blue eyes. I give up, that's about it. I'll add a long shot: Max von Sydow when younger, yes a swede but maybe he speaks German lol.

So have we figured it out yet?

It's bugging me now as much as it is the OP...;)
Haha..no, not yet...thought we had it this morning with Hans Christian Blech, but that was a no go too.

I'm going to run all these names and pictures past her mum as well, as gf was ~9 at the time, and though she is sure she has a clear image of the guy in mind it might be more vague than mums.

I'll definitely update if we get an answer :)

Clutching at straws, Robert Shaw played a few germans and had blue eyes in those films.

Colonel Hessler is probably the best picture you'll get.

Edit: Actually he died late 70's at an early age.
