Its like this, I have been messing with my nippers bass (its a fender jazz). I'm going to get my own bass but my problem is two-fold.
Although I am right handed, I really CANT play get my head around playing right handed(I even drum the wrong way round apparently.....that confused me since im carp and the set-up i generally muck about with is for righties), I had a go on a mates left handed Dean bass and it was much much more natural. So recommendations for a decent beginners left handed guitar, if you please.

Ibanez GSR200 at about £170 they are a steal, they do it right handed and left handed and was a great kick start to my musical ambitions! :) hope this helps!

I have one of these, and it's the dog's proverbials!

EDIT: Actually, you can buy it off me if you like. MSN is in trust. I'm a guitarist at heart, and play too many other instruments!

EDIT 2: It's right handed. Ignore me :o

seriously, I wouldn't get settled with left handed instruments, especially basses, unlike guitars, most basses that are any good aren't made left handed (or very rarely). Some of my left handed guitar friends play right handed purely for this reason.

Ibanez or Yamaha are both good, but like I said, choosing a left handed bass will severely decrease your options if you get into bass playing

You can still pick up a decent LH Warwick or Rickenbacker if you choose to go further and the old standards (Fender P and J) are easily available for lefties.

But you'll pay a premium over a RH bass.

You'll already be paying a premium for a Rickenbacker

My main point was that Phalanx's reason for avoiding lefties was availability if you 'get into bass playing'...

...My argument is that if you 'get into' it, lefties are quite easily available until you reach Rickenbacker-type money...And if you can afford £1,200 for a bass, you can afford £1,700 for the left-hooker.

My gf's dad's a lefty - he's got a LH Steinberg, a couple of PRS', some nice old Gibsons...

Thanks guys, keep them coming.
Aria IGB50LH and Yamaha RBX270L were recommended by a mate that plays, he also said, and I quote "If you really get into playing you will outgrow the GSR200 quickly" without my mentioning it. Opinions?

yeah, but Jazz basses and Rickenbackers are quite typical basses. I for one find Rickenbackers horrible basses with bad "feel" and tone. I'd easily take a hide end Yamaha or Ibanez over a Rickenbacker.

Perhaps i'm biased though because I play 6 strings. I've never seen a left handed 6 string bass apart from some nasty cheapo ones on eBay.
