Hi I am a proper noob to PC gaming but have decided to make the switch from consoles after being stunned at how much difference there was between my ps3 and a friends gaming PC.
I decided to start upgrading a tower I bought with the idea being to buy as upmarket as i could poss afford with each component at the time. Iv bought a new PSU and GPU spent all week dying to get delivery n now realise I have made a gargantuantly ignorant **** up and got a PSU with 8pin CPU cable and my mobo has 4 pin. I've tried searching for info on whether my mistake can be fixed or not but I can't find anything usefull quick enough for before shops shut so I hoped someone could give me a quick answer if there's an adapter I can buy or if thats an equally daft notion and the two simply aren't compatible. PSU is corsair gaming series gs800
Any help appreciated, I'm desperate to get this up and running tonight if poss or at least get an answer that it ain't gna happen so I can relax lol!

wait!!

does the 8pin plug split into two? usually they do and you can plug one half into the board,if not just plug one half of the plug into the four slot mb socket,it will only plug in one way so you cant get it wrong

Lol I've jus found this demonstrating what youve said. Embarassingly jus slightly too slow to post before u helped lol. Thanks mate I'll try. I always had a lot of respect for the knowledge it took to build this stuff up but I really thot I'd get further than the PC equivalent of the granny calling Vodafone customer services cos her new Nokia won't work "uhuh yes dear, did you put the battery In first"... "Battery?"

Any collosal blunders I could make doing this or is it a case of don't push the round peg in the square hole n ul do grand? The old PSU looks so simple n would be easy to reinstall the new one jus looks like a shiny black box with the worlds biggest plastic python orgy dangling out the back of it... N I would be equally as hesitant poking about at that as I am the PSU tbh...

nope,it will only plug in one way,the four holes all have different shapes so it won't plug in any other way

Cheers man and the speedy reply was much appreciated I'm so impatient to see what far cry 3 looks like

mobo power all fine... Obsessing over fact I'm sure I unplugged more sata cables than I'm plugging back in. Take it I use a seperate cable for hard drive and bd player and use the first connector on each cable? I'm sorry if these are daft questions but I know I don't fully know what I'm doing that's y its taking so long cos I'm researching every cable like five times. It might take ages but I'd rather do sum reading take some time and have a go myself n learn from it than punt it to someone in a shop to do.

best put your operating ssd/hdd into ssd port 0 and any dvd/blue ray drive in ports 4 or 5

yeah separate cable for each device

Holy **** its actually working! Couldn't fit in case with panel on so need new case but still its actually fukin running! Cheers mate really gratefully for ur help tonight!
