Faster processor, good RAM.

Would be more power, but obviously you can overclock yours.

Are you after cheapness or speed?

I dunno what he already has but this board offers DDR & DDR2 and an AGP slot as well as PCI-E if he is on quite an old board etc. So if he has a GB of DDR then you can use that for the time being to save some monies.

Same with the GFX card, if he has an AGP he can use that then upgrade later.

If not and he has PCI-E then I would prob get a better board (the ABit one) and get some DDR2 RAM as it's cheap as chips now anyways.

Also you would have to OC that chip to get your monies worth so a decent CPU cooler could also be on the cards... Dunno how well the stock coolers do when OC'ing.
