Help needed- budget graphics card

My old graphics card died last night and I need a new one asap. Budget is tight so need something less than £80. The system specs are:

i5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz
OCZ 600W PSU
23'' HD monitor
8GB Samsung green memory running @1800+

Any recommendations? :confused: I dont want to spend £100+ on 6850/70 or 550ti as I am thinking of buying a high end graphics card in the next 6 months, just need something half decent to keep me going.

Second hand is your best option, otherwise you're looking at something in the range either an Nvidia gt640, or an AMD 6750 / 70.

There is an AMD 6850 on this week's special...but it's four quid over budget.

Hmm I'm not too fond of the GT640. If you want an nvidia card go for the asus gtx550ti, its on offer at under £80.

+1 To that. Also there's an MSI version for around £84. Good choice instead of the hd6770 if you want.
 
I've had a HIS 6850 in the past- overclocked and I didn't think it performed as it should have, of course not that I was expecting miracles from a mid range GPU. What would be your choice out of the 6850 and the gtx 550ti? Need to buy one now and both of the deals are great.

What CPU did you have at the time of you using the 6850?

550Ti is NOWHERE nearly as fast as 6850.
