ok, ill give the details of what ive got and how ive got it setup first

Laptop w/ wireless internet Neatgear anywhere access internet (no wireless router needed), one patch cable connected into its LAN connection, that leads to my main computer upstairs (one in my sig), ive setup through 'Setup a small home or office network' a internet sharing connection on the lan connection, and the laptop also chooses the wireless access as a main internet connection, so when i plug the patch cable in, the laptop still has internet access and recognises that the patch cable plugged in is for the other computer to connect to it for internet (if any of this makes sense, im shocked, because i dont even understand)

so, flow diagram starting from lappie

< wireless internet
laptop-
> patch cable > main rig

only, on my main rig, when i plug the cable in, it says limited or no connectivity. so im confused lol

ive run no wizards on my main rig, as i beleive i shouldnt have to, when i plug in the cable, the laptop should already have it set up for that connection being to the internet right?

what have i done wrong? conused.com tbh

lol

ok firstly do you have a link to this netgear thing? or is in built in to the laptop?

yes its most likely a wi-fi card, which basically means it can connect to a wi-fi network, so you actually need to have a wireless router in your house connected to your phone line..

ok, the laptop came in the box, nothing, and i mean NOTHING else, ive not got BT wireless or anything, always have and always had BT ADSL broadband.

the signal isnt great.

is it possible im connecting to somone elses router? neighbour? which btw, i get very weak signal, 1 bar most of the time.

Yes, you are.

Either pop onto OcUK shop and pick up a Wifi ADSL router, or pop into a local PC shop. It'll allow mulitple PCs/Laptops to connect via ethernet aswell as Wifi.
