help needed for new OS

iv got the parts for my new build and am in the process of assembling,
its an intel quad core 2.4GHz
4GB RAM (so will need 64 bit)
320GB HDD
ATI 4850 512mb GPU

what i want some help with is choosing my OS
should i stick with xp or go with vista and if vista which one. I do all my course work on it (but i have 2003 business edition to cover the software else its not compatible with my uni's software) and will be looking to do some gaming on it
dont really want to be spending out more than £90 and thats pushing it as i was originally considering sticking with XP and getting it for £60
can any one give me some advice

Vista Home Premium 64Bit.

The OS I linked will fly on your spec. Bare in mind if you get a new motherboard, you will not be able to transfer the Vista OEM Licence to the new motherboard (unless replaced in warrenty/RMA).

If you're one to change motherboards, get retail. It saves money in the long run.
