Help needed in finding a motherboard

I'm looking for a mobo with similar specs to the Asus p5p800 SE, I have the standard (p5p800) version of the board and after a silly amount of checking and double checking thought I could use a pentium d in it with a BIOS upgrade. I was wrong :mad:

The SE version works with the chip i have but is very hard to find none of the searches i've made have come back with anything that is in stock anywhere on the planet.

I'm basicly limited by the following:

2 Gig of ocuk DDR ram
AGP Radeon x1950 512MB

I just need something to tie me over until I can stretch to a monster rig in a years time.

If anyone knows of *any* board that will run my things I would be most grateful!!

The Asrock DUAL-VSTA runs both DDR and DDR2 RAM as well as both AGP and PCI-E graphics. It can handle all 775 socket cpus as well as quad core CPUs if you get the quad core version of the board. The standard version of the board only supports dual core. Mine works nicely but don't expect much of an overclock. Currently on just a 290fsb myself. It's very good for slowly upgrading your components though.

That looks pretty impressive. I remember reading about a few cards that where due to be released just after everyoen started hyping PCI-e but I then heard that none of them ran well :confused:

I'm also not sure what you mean't by competitor so I butcherd my post!!

Worth noting that the 4300 is not supported on the default bios.
I think these boards are a waste of time really unless you can get one cheap
like under £25 or it's just a chunk that could have been better spent on a full upgrade.

Well if you have DDR RAM and AGP graphics then they are a good option as it means you don't have to spend £400+ extra on upgrading RAM and graphics.

Also they do support the E4300, officially they don't but no one on the main thread for this board has had a problem getting it started with the original factory BIOS. And since BIOS 1.4 they do officially support them. I think the factory default is above 1.4 now.

The board runs everything excellently at default speeds. It's only downside is the lack of any real overclocking potential. You might get 10% extra out of your CPU if you're lucky.

Nah the better option is to stick with what you have until you can afford the big upgrade.You're not going to get a massive boost using a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo
ddr and agp card and certainly not worth £45.You could simply save that £45
Thats half of an e4300 almost !
Theres one that will do 2.7-2.8 ghz and has 4x ddr1 slots.
But having read up a lot about them too finicky and plagued with problems for my liking.If it were £20 i'd get one though lol.

Please read the original post. He bought an 805P and is looking for a new board that will work with that, AGP and DDR. That is the Asrock DUAL-VSTA. Best option for him atm. He is not looking for a complete upgrade just something that will handle his 805P and the DUAL-VSTA certainly will and quite well at that.
