Help needed in reinstalling Win7 to SSD

Hi,

I've reinstalled windows before to my intel SSD, but am having problems this time.

I have a secondary conventional HDD for my documents, whilst the OS is installed on the SSD. I disconnected the secondary HD before restarting with the win7 disk in the optical drive. Upon the win7 installation screen, I proceeded to format the SSD and delete both partitions, so that windows could sort out the partitions for me during the installation.

However the following message is then presented:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the BIOS."

As far as I know I haven't changed anything in the BIOS at all, and as said have previously installed and reinstaled win7 to this SSD before.

Any ideas? Thanks all.

Which mode is your bios in? IDE or AHCI? Should work on both but worth checking at least.

I think it's in AHCI mode. In the BIOS settings I have set:

SATA RAID/AHCI MODE: AHCI

Is this the correct option to change?

There is also an option

SATA port0-3 Native Mode

which can be enabled or disabled.

According to manual:

Enabled (default) allows the SATA controllers to operate in native IDE mode. Disabled allows the SATA controllers to operate in legacy IDE mode.

Does this need to be changed at all?

Nah AHCI mode is the correct mode.

I'm not sure about that setting. I would think that it should be enabled and disabled wouldn't make a difference.

Do you get as far as formatting the drive as NTFS?

To confirm - as you're trying to install Windows into the SSD with it completely empty and un-partitioned the error occurs? I'll have a dig what I can find

I get as far as this screen (not my screenie, just an example)

I formatted any partitions then deleted them. The afore mentioned error message is displayed at the bottom of this screen. If I attempt to install anyway, when the computer restarts as part of the installation process, it hangs in the bios with code 23.

I've temporarily installed win7 to my HDD and connected the SSD as a secondary to have a look at it. In disk manager it appears as completely unallocated.

Cheers for your help so far.

It could be something as simple as needing the sata drivers installing for your motherboard. But i've not had that issue in a long time.

Have used some computers where the harddrive shows up, but it fails to finish the last stage of install, unless sata drivers are installed Before selecting the harddrive. (the stage in the screen shot, load driver)

AHCI Is the correct mode, But if you select IDE and are able to finish the install then what i said above is likely correct.
