Help needed, Lian Li V300 or Silverstone Sugo?

Hi all,

This is a bit of a follow up to my earlier thread where I asked whether or not small form factor cases were suitable for top of the range systems (in regards to heat when running demanding software)

Having been convinced that small form factor PC's can take the strain I am faced with the problem of choosing a case. At first I had the Sugo down as a dead cert but the V300 seems to be well regarded.

I probably prefer the look of the Silverstone but it sounds like Lian-Li are better quality.

Which would you guys go for? Also does either have advantages over the other regarding graphics card and CPU fan room?

Thanks

I have a sugo sg01e and lian li g50. Personally I think the build quality on the sugo is better but its not to say that the other lian li's are the same.

iirc the v300 has issues with longer gfx cards. The sugo can take upto gf8800gts cards. Sugo has an issue with cpu coolers but if you get a silverstone nt06 lite (and a 120mm fan psu) then you will have no issues in regards to cooling - it was meant for the sugo.

Will the graphics cards not get smaller in future anyway meening that it will be able to hold more advanced cards?

What issues does it have with CPU coolers exactly?

Thanks again.

V300...

i had to chop a lump out to fit me 8800GTS 320 in
plus i had to buy another PSU coz my Hyper Type R didnt fit

plus plus... it is a nice case but... the side panels fit on with 6 tiny screws which is ok if ya dont fiddle too much but i can see loosing or knackering them

Apart from that it's a bl00dy good well build case :D

yes but this is now and the smaller more advanced cards arent anywhere near :)

As said with the psu being above the cpu the height of cooler is limited to 78mm - the nt06 lite I suggested is the exact fit and is used in conjunction with a psu 120mm fan for cooling.

I forgot about psu's - some modular like the hyper dont fit - I'm using a tagan modular which is fine except for the excess cable which Ive shoved in a spare dvd drive bay.

Having had two sugo's and one V300 I'd personally say the V300, as long as you chop a bit out to accomodate long graphics cards. The Sugo is built better tbh but just looks nowhere near as nice.

thread bump, i am in exacly the same situation as the OP, save starting a new thread i am bumping this one, i like the sugo but i think i can get an extra hdd in the V300, i have read the thread and i see most of you would go for the sugo, any V300 owners in here, bearing in mind i am not going to be putting an 8800 in it but want to get more hdds in it really.

i remember reading that the silverstone can have the hdd cage modded to fit 3 hdds, anyone done or got any info on this?

cheers

I believe the Sugo can have 3 HDD's if no floppy drive is used but I am not sure about that, can anyone confirm?

I still havn't got either of the cases as I have put off upgrading till the C2D price drops, however I am leaning towards the Sugo. The thing swinging it for me at the momment is the fact that the Sugo is a smaller case yet seems to have more room inside (no need to hack it up for larger Gfx cards)

Sugo SG01e can only take 2 hd's as standard, you can add upto another 2 via the optical bays although to be honest you need one of them bays for cables if you have the wrong psu, ie like my tagan :).

The temjin tj08 (also matx) can take 4 if you have no floppy type 3.5" drives

With the V300 you could use standard bays to fit two, then shove two more into the floppy drive rack (I reckon), then put 2 more in the CD/DVD bays using caddies.

Ive got 2x 250Gb in the HD drive bay. Plus a 500Gb Spinpoint in the 3 1/2 bay, and a DVD writer.

All fits fine. :)

you sure about that because 3 into 2 doesnt go :)

I assume you mean the spinpoint is in the 5.25" bay
