This is under the budget but I've also included a PSU since your old one might struggle with a newer system. I've also put in XP 64, do you really want that though? Vista 64bit is probably a better bet nowadays. :)

I must admit im not a lover of Vista to be honest.

I was looking at the following:

BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC2 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

** Overclocked Bundle ** Abit IP35 Pro Motherboard / Intel Q6600 Quad Core @ 3.3Ghz / 2GB (2x1GB) OCZ PC-8500 RAM / Tuniq Tower CPU Cooler

Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2c - OEM (ZAT-00124)

Totals £550.98

I have a brand new Jeantech 500 watt psu would that be sufficiant ?

Thanks for the input

I personally probably wouldn't bother with the BFG OC2 since almost any 8800GT will probably overclock to those levels anyway.

The PC8500 Ram is overkill for a Q6600 unless you are going over 3.6ghz (and to do that you need a very good chip and cooling) so I'd buy 4gb of decent PC6400 such as the G.Skill or Corsair XMS2.

The CPU cooler is pretty good though if you've got space in your case.

Your PSU should be ok provided it has all the required connections.

The Psu says it Intel Core 2 Duo ready....

what cpu cooler would you recommend ?

this is the spec so far

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail
Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2c - OEM (ZAT-00124)

total 496.97

If you want quite cheap but good performance then the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro is a bit of a bargain at ~£15.

If you are willing to spend a bit more then a Tuniq Tower or Noctua NH-U12P, both around £30+ would be where my money would go.

Rite this is how its looking

Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775)
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail
BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

And Finally lol

Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2c - OEM (ZAT-00124)

Any recomendations on motherboards..

Thanks mate

The IP35 is a pretty good motherboard and well tested by this point, the Ram is compatible with it so I think you might as well go for it.

You could save yourself £15 and get the OEM Q6600 since you are buying a separate heatsink for the CPU and it will almost certainly clock to over 3ghz anyway. However it is up to you so if you want the assurance that you can return the CPU if it doesn't reach 3ghz then don't let me stop you. :)
