Help needed on new build

Hello everyone, right I have just got a new CPU, MOBO and water cooler and I am having a problem when starting it up.

Press the power button, lights on the motherboard turn on, the pump is making a noice, and the fans are spining, but after 2-3 seconds the whole thing shuts down, then 3-4 seconds later it will turn on and try again and again.

The RAM worked fine on my old build, SSD, HDD and ODD are not connected, pwer cables are both in (8 and 24pin)

Has anyone got any ideas what it is?

Does the sniper have an error led read out?

might seem obvious but have you got all the power cables in the mobo connected up?

Hi, yea it does have a led read out but it cuts out before anything is displyed. And yes all power cables are connected.

One thing I have noticed is the water pump making a highish noise, but I thought that would be normal until the liquid has been fully pumped around the loop.

Try these things,

• Reset the BIOS/ClearCMOS.
• Re-seat the RAM
• Have a look at the socket pins, are any of them bent abnormally)
• Try one RAM stick at a time in different slots.
• Disconnect the drives as you don't need them to boot the PC up.
• Does the CPU fan header have a fan plugged into it? maybe its turning off if it cant detect an RPM signal.
• Build the basic system up outside of the case on some cardboard.

Hi,

Cleared the BIOS, still nothing
Re-sat the RAM, nothing
Disconnected all the drives
I have tried the PC outside the case, still nothing

I am going to try and use the stock intel cooler next, i will then check the pins.

It does sound like a bent pin unfortunately.

Spot on mate, took the cooler off and taken the CPU out to find two bent pins.
10 years nearly of working with pc's and this is the first time i have managed to bend some pins

phoned OCUK up and they said they would replace it, a one off though.

i will report back once i have it working, hopefully.

Just got my replacment motherboard and it works !

BUT, oh yes theres a but, the pump from the cooler is now making a noise, I phoned CS up and they said I needed a 7v cable (or something), which I havn't got, So they are sending me one for tomorrow :cool:
