Up a Tree...
hello all.

im back again, same problem again. and this time its worse, i tried so many different things and still cannot find the root of the problem. :(

this is my spec:::

Tsunami Dream VA3000BWA, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe S939, 2GB OCZ Dual Channel PC4000, Hiper 580W Type-R, 2x Raptor" 10,000RPM 80gig, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT-X 512MB GDDR3,

only things that happen is, my psu suply red light on the back is on, stating there is power on the switch, and a green light on the motherboard saying there's power there,

no fans spin, no other noises...

its done this about 4 times now, im really unsure if its the actual power switch on my case, and not sure how i go about getting a replacement for that, or whether its my motherboard... psu..

they all been find, and it was fine yestaday, just shut down as normal, then it does this again, and will not power up at all :/

i have been googleing like mad, and still cannot find the problem.

i hope someone who had a simular problem or can help me, will post here.
regards, chez

Are you running your system overclocked? I had a similar problem with an RDX200 CF-DR, reseting the bios with the jumper on the motherboard may solve the problem.

Id try a different PSU first, those Hipers are well dodgy, been blowing up all over the shop.

They that bad they even have their own Offical Explosive Club on here.

One way to test the switch in the case is to short out the 2 pins that the switch uses on the mobo. BE CAREFUL not to short out any other pins.

the system hasnt been overclocked, all running default.

and the short circuit...
not sure how you do that, but i think i would be scared too.

also, i have a old psu suply but its like 200***, and would be a lot of hassle to change it all. as it was working fine last night,

im scared also to take it appart again and work my way up again,
i dont want to loose all my work on the harddrives, if i disconnect them?

i remember i did on my old pc, and they got wiped...

im not sure what the problem is...

Instead of shorting out the pins on the motherboard you could test the PSU by disconnecting it from the motherboard and peripherals (no need to disconnect fans). Then unplug the PSU, take a paperclip bend it and short the green wire and any black(neutral) wire, then plug in, if working PSU fans spin up.

that sounds too complicated for me.

i will try and step by step find the problem again, i hope its something simple...

if still no luck, i have to take it to a pc shop :(

i hope someone who had a simular problem or can help me, i see a lot of threads, and trust me i taken it appart so many times...
so far...

my graphics card is off,
soundcard,
wireless netword,
4usb card,

taken out the battery, and jumped it, clearing the bios...
removed memory and placed back in.
taken out most leads and placed back in.

im scared to touch my harddrive cables incase i loose all my work.
i did this once on my old pc, and lost it all. (cant afford to loose it now)

i dont have a spare psu at the moment, or anything really i can try,

people been telling me the hiper type R psu's have had problems... maybe i should get another one? what should i get? i liked the look at the OCZ ones...

any help/links/guides to help me find this problem.
much appreciated.

maybe i should take the whole thing appart then,

and reput together, if the same problem, i will try and buy another psu.
see if that works, but be a few days :/

i just hope i dont loose my work :(

it wont be your power switch, a simple way to test (rather than the more dodgy sounding, but wholly correct, prior suggestions) is swap the header for the reset switch :) you know the little plastic connectors that are attached to the case with like "hdd LED" and "reset sw" etc on them? just move the reset sw to there the power sw one is and bingo hit reset and see if it comes on.

Personally, its PSU or mobo, an old 200w psu should suffice but dont hook up everything, just the mobo and gfx if neccesary

about to try it again, though i just took most of it apart then back again,

still no good ;(

i think im going to have to buy another psu to test...
would it just go like that? working fine one day... turn it off, and doesnt work next day... even though lights up?

Sadly yes...that can happen. Had it at work god knows how many times =[

Have you re-seated the cpu at all by the way?

It is looking like a PSU problem though...What i suggest is, take the motherboard out of the case, and place it on something non conductive basically (ie not metal :P)...

Re-seat your cpu (Take it out of the socket, and put it back in)...LEAVE the ram out, granted you wont get video, but it will at least spin the cpu fan up :) Dont be alarmed if you start to here 3 longish beeps, thats cause theres no ram in the motherboard. Thats if theres a speaker on the motherboard.

Then just connect up a PSU to the motherboard, making sure the 24pin and 4 pin connector are connected to the motherboard.

For now dont plug anything else in, just atleast see if you can get the thing to spin up.

Then add one stick of ram, then a graphics card. etc etc.

well i took my old one out, turns out it was a 400w one.

so i just put that in, and took the hiper out,
the psu started fine in the motherboard, granted i didnt connect anything else,

e.g graphics, cd roms, drives...

i think i best order a new psu and hopefullly that will work,

i did notice a few times when it was running fine, sometimes when you turned it on, the fan, (didnt know which one) but was very very loud, and i had to hit the pc to make it stop.

so im guessing that was a sign, it was on its way out. :/

i best place a order ;)

It has to be either psu or mobo otherwise the mobo would be beeping at you like crazy :D My money is on that hiper.

problem is my case doesnt have a speaker in it, so i dont get any bleeps :P

its a shame i liked that hiper :(
for it just to stop working... shame.

though i guess i have pushed it, left pc on a lot...

anyway, just bought the Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)

a bit much that i was expecting to pay, but you get what you pay for.
and i was hopeing to get a xbox 360 next week, now thats got to be put back again.

oh well... its my birthday end of the month, have to ask family for early present :)

i will report back on tuesday when it comes, hopefully does the job,
and i do hope i dont loose my work, now my harddrives have been disconnected.

we shall see...

Good choice of PSU, I have a Hiper 580w sitting in my back room gathering dust, it works, but I upgraded cos I didnt want to come home and see the fire brigade round my house! Lethal things from the stuff I have seen (youtube them)! The corsair is a beaut, and if you want to Sli new GeForce's its the one!

You problem sounds like the PSU has gone to me, but I could be wrong... you will soon find out I suppose, keep us updated!

thanks for the reply.

im going to youtube the hiper now, thanks for reminding me to look there.
i did see a thread on it here, where the hipers was lethal.

its a shame, i did like it.

not sure if it has warrenty on it?
do you know if it has more than 1 year?

hopefully the psu will be ok, the new one, comes tomorrow.
im set back £100 now, was going to get xbox 360.

i still want it, we see if i can get some money together for it.
i shall report back tomorrow hopefully, and be typing on my pc ;)
