Help Needed: PC wont connect to internet but wireless laptop will.

Hi all,

I am having a problem with connecting my PC to the internet. It is connected to a router via ethernet but only registers the connect as local even though I am able to connect wirelessly to the internet via my laptop.

I've tried re-booting and changing the ethernet ports but without success.

The last thing I did on my PC yesterday was run Norton quick scan, I've had a look at the history but can't tell if Norton has changed anything.

I'm running vista as my OS, can anyone give me any idea how to fix this problem?

tried another cable/port on your router ?

Click start, run, type in CMD and click OK.
Black window pops up.

Type in: IPCONFG /ALL
And press return, you'll get a sequence of numbers (IP Address) in the sequence 123.123.123.123 (Might not all be 3 digits, but you get the point)

Make a note of this, do the same on your laptop, do all but the last set of digits match?

Could you have inadvertently turned on a Norton Firewall?
