help needed - Pc wont post

Last night i turned on the Black Beast to a mild burning smell, so i switched everything back off, had an inspection and things did look ok, powered up and I got power to everything inc, gfx board, hd's span up, cpu fan running.......but no boot or display, and the HD light is stuck on.

Am i right in thinking the mobo may have baked itself nicely? im kind of down to a point where in think the IDE controller may have died.

anything i should try first before diving headlong into buying a new mobo?

When this happened to me i took the proccessor out and went down to a local PC store. I told them the pin number and asked if they could pop it into another motherboard to see if it posts. You should also try doing this with the graphics card. I gave them a tenner maybe you might a friend who will help out.

tried the GFX card this avo, and all is well, but not the CPU, could have a dabble on the CPU front in my main rig, but dont wanna risk it really, will have try dig out an old mobo lolol
