My computer switched off some time in the night and now it won't power up.
For the past 2 or 3 weeks, when I first turned it on, it would run for a few seconds then shut down. once I pushed the power button again it would start ok.

Now when I press power there is a brief response for a fraction of a second then nothing.
The lights on the graphics card are illuminated as is a power sign on the mb, but the lights on the memory sticks are off. They just illuminate for a brief moment when power is first pressed .The same with the cpu fan. Just a brief movement when turning on.

I built the pc in 2012 .main components are...
Cpu 3570k
Mb MSI z77a-gd65
2x 4gb geil black dragon
Corsair tx650 PSU
Ocz ssd
Asus xonar essence sound card

Many thanks.

after getting home from work, i looked at the pc and discovered that the connection into my 2nd hard drive, an old seagate barracuda, had burned out. melted plastic and bare wires everywhere:eek:.
removed the hard drive and cut the power line back to near the previous connector. wrapped the cut end with insulation tape. everything is working again.
im guessing it was the hard drive at fault?

Could have been a cable partially pulled out/bad connector causing high resistance and the plug overheating... would still keep an eye on the drive though

had to bin the drive. it had melted at the power connector slot.
