Hi, I recently installed an x1900xt into my machine. It was overclocked to 675 and 783 on the memory. I ran ATI tools, and after running the find maximum bit set it to 700/810, at which point it black-screened and now it black screens with my monitor saying no input after the XP splash screen.

Since then I've tried setting everything back to default clocks in ATI tools, resetting the CMOS and returning everything to stock. I managed to get into XP in normal mode for about a minute - it kept going to black screen for about 5 seconds at a time. I tried reinstalling the drivers from ATI's site in safe mode and VGA mode, but it comes up with something about not being able to install because of not having NET 2.0 ????

Anyone have any suggestions?

Load up windows normally. but during the splash screen press and hold shift key, if you have to let go to put in your login details do so, the second you hit enter after you've put in your password press and hold shift again, fingers crossed you'll get into windows. disable ati tool from running (i assume its running with windows and restoring the overclock) uninstall and reinstall gfx drivers as normal and you should be good to go

reason it wont install in safe mode i assume .Net isnt running or whatever it does.

good luck

Thanks for the reply alec, but didn't seem to do anything :( Tried uninstalling ATItool, and removing display drivers from device manager, but to no joy - comes up with a severe - zero display service error. Any suggestions? Am getting frustrated :(

Cheap and easy way out, but salvage important stuff and do a reinstall of windows? probably quickest way tbh.

although could driver clean it in safe mode. that could sort it

odd, removing the drivers in safe mode should have sorted it out. could be its loading up a wrong resolution for your screen and its causing the monitor to stay blank.

Why might it be a wrong resolution issue?- running on a 1680x1050 monitor.

Is it worth trying other drivers, and if so, any ideas?

Am getting tempted to do a full rebuild tbh - only built the machine recently so won't be too much hassle.

could be wrong refresh or something. i know on my 3rd pc's tft if the rez is set too low or the refresh rate is dodgey monitor always stay in standby mode.

its deffo a driver or display setting issue you got. i forgot where the registry settings are so u could jump inot safe mode and set a workable rez and boot back up. do a search it may get you what you need without a full on wipe job.

i had the same zero display service error stuff, googling didnt help, and driver cleaner and all safe mode stuff did nothing. unfortunately you have to reformat, that fixed it for me.

Reinstalled XP this morning and still no joy :( Still can't get into normal windows mode, only safe or VGA mode. Have now tried reinstalling drivers, and have tried driver cleaner. Currently using catalyst 7.8.

Have also tried omega drivers. Have set speeds to 499/594 in ati tools, and it's at that at the moment in Rivatuner at 1.2V. Everything in the machine is at stock.

Please can someone suggest where to go from here; I'm at a loss for ideas :(

EDIT: would setting PCI frequency to 110 or upping the southbridge voltage be of any use? (don't know whether the card is still overclocking when loading up xp normally...)
