hi im need of some help please my mate has tried to build his own computer and serioursly gone wrong and now im stuck trying to figure out whats wrong.
i will start with the hardware
he bought a system that he just had to put together easy right NOT
1st motherboard intell DP55kg
i7 875k 2.93 ghz
corsair 2gb 133 ddr3
arctic 700 w psu
1gb his graphics card
har drive 1.5tb

after his fauiler putting it together his decided his motherboard was ****ed so he bought a
maximus 3 extreme

still didnt get it to work so he though he would change his psu to
ocz z series 100w psu
still doesnt work

the first mb power on the board by way of green light but power button doesnt work it doesnt boot or fans dont spin

second mb the fans spin for a second and then cut off

he then decided to come see me and i have tested what i can but my knowlade is limited both psus work so thats 130 he wasted lol

i have cleared the cmos on both but none boot or do any more than spin the fans for a few seconds

please help im stumped cant figure this out and he said when its fixed i can have the bit that he doesnt need lol

any help would be great cheers

Best thing you could do is strip it completely & rebuild it yourself, God knows what he has done.

Are all power connectors connected, ie the 8 pin for cpu power, also check the memory is in the correct slots, usually 2nd & 4th from the cpu.

agreed....

1 question, if we help you do you pass the free item he doesn't need onto us?? lols only joking, btw if members to this site haven't noticed already

i actually try bringing humor to everything in life,

i'll try helping you but first i need to go look up all the parts you have as i'm unfamiliar with some of those parts and the problem could be anything from compatability between cpu's been tried or the emory been shafted as he's attempted to put it in, that reminds me.... one more question, does your friend have large fingures? .. hehe thats partly humor and partly a serious question lol

no he has small fingures he says he was carfull
also when the fan spins up for a few seconds he removed the 4 pin 12v and the cpu fan stayed spinning but i told him he needs to leave this plugged in lol

he does have an antistatic band so im assuming he did

corsair 2gb 133 ddr3

I am assuming you have tried just one memory stick at a time in this machine. I have had to RMA a stick of corsair DDR3 1333 this week as the machine would not boot with it in. So try one stick, then the other.

also a good plan

i've checked the board and the cpu they are compatable but it states that that the cpu is only compatable with the 4905 version of bios for it to be compatable... check that...
lols....

told you i try bringing humor to all things in life haha,
on a serious note... i'd consider taking all the parts and trying them seperately in a machine you already know is functional to ensure all parts are working, it could be a matter of the processor been faulty or the memory or the motherboard or the job lot, if it's a matter of the bios having the wrong version on it for the processor then thats what you'd need to do anyways just to get the bios changed, srry i can't seem to help you further than that, i hope i've been helpful
