So I ordered a corsair braided cable kit for my Seasonic PSU as Seasonic don't make cable kits and a few people on here recommended corsair above others.

Today I started installing the cables in to my PC and I am 99% complete.

But as usual everything was clearly going too well...Just plugged my GPU in and the cables that plug in to the PSU don't line up correctly, more specifically the little clip doesn't line up with the hole.

My PSU has 12 pin slots (6x2) for PCI-E devices but my corsair cables are labeled as '"type 3" and are 8 pin (4x2)

In what may be the dumbest idea ever I cut off the clips on the corsair cables and now they fit in to the holes just fine and there are 4 unused pins on each connector

I just want to know am I going to blow up my computer if I turn it on...

here is a photo to make things a bit clearer

Ok, thanks for the advice guys. Still haven't powered it on yet. All other cables fit fine so I am sure they'll be fine. I will swap my old GPU cable back in for now while I hunt down a braided one.

will update in the morning.

UPDATE

ok, so I replaced the GPU cable and long story short it doesn't power on...

It kind of half starts for about a second then stops, and the gpu makes a very faint buzzing sound.

I have started to swap the old cables back in one by one but to no avail.

I don't think I have caused any damage as the PC keeps trying to power up each time.

Have I forgotten something obvious or is it a simple matter of non compatibility?
