Help needed re DVD > touchpad

We are going away soon and I'd like to rip some DVDs to play on my touchpad for the kids to keep them quiet on the plane.

utter noob here where do I start?

Thanks, tried it out but it just rips it to MKV at the same size (1hr 30min DVD 6mb) any way of just ripping straight to MP4 or AVI as they play well on the TP

Not to sure about straight to converted, but you could extract the main .VOB file then convert it in Handbrake
