Hello guys, I have an old 17inch lcd TV that I want to repair and give to my mum, I've cracked up the case and think I've found the problem below which is a picture of a cap on the power inverter that I've removed from inside the screen, I thought it may of been a cap as before the screen started to fail I was hearing hissing.

Anyway here is the suspect cap,

Now I've googled "1000uf 16v capacitor" and found these on the bay,

High quality, low cost, radial lead aluminium electrolytic capacitors
Long life - endurance tested to 2000 hours at 85 degrees C.

* Tolerance +/- 20% at 120Hz, 20 degC.
* Ripple current 720mA.
* Operating temp -40 to +85 degC.
* Leakage current <0.01CV
* Lead pitch 5mm
* Body diameter 10mm
* Height 16mm.

I'm guessing they will be fine as a replacement yes ?

Yep. Worth giving it a go! thats the same spec, 16v 1000uf... jobs a good 'un.

Make sure you solder it in the right way round though. Electrolytic caps will explode (not a joke) if you solder them in the wrong way round. Look for the coloured line down one side, and match it up to the pin below, and make sure its the same orientation as the one you are replacing.

It will literally explode if you get it wrong. The internal stuffing will go everywhere.

Got a ******s or RS components nearby? You can but give it a try. The capacitor will have a stripe down one side, this shows the nagative side, so make sure the new one goes in the same way.

Can't believe that's star'd out? Competitor or naughty word?
