Hi Folks I have a 2008 Civic SE I-DSI which I bought a Genuine JDM Honda Gear Knob for.

The issue I'm having is when the gear knob is fully tightened the markings are at a diagonal position. If I rotate it anticlockwise one turn so the markings are straight, the gear knob is very loose. Is there anything I can do here bar sending it back? I had thought of getting the Skunk 2 gear knob instead but thinking I may encounter the same problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Put a nut on the shaft (ooh err) before you screw the knob down, then you can tighten this up to lock it in the correct position?

Thats what the Skunk2 knobs have...

Yeah I noticed that the Skunk 2 knob comes with a locking nut. Would that ensure the gear knob doesn't move about when straightened then? What exactly do I need to buy to sort it? Thanks for your help :)

You can put a thin washer or on top of the shaft to change the stopping position of the knob, or file a fraction off the top of the shaft so the knob turns slightly more. Easily done.

I would try and file a bit off but would probably make a hash of it lol! Going to get the oil and filter done on Tuesday so could ask my mechanic to have a go with a file perhaps.

Ideally you need the nut to make that sit right, on the type R this is hidden underneath the gaiter but obviously the other models will have it exposed.

I'd be more inclined to just get hold of even a very low profile not than start trimming the shaft as otherwise the standard one might not sit right

I wonder if I could get the little locking nut on it's own that comes with the Skunk 2? I'm surprised Honda don't provide one with the gear knob tbh.

Probably because it's a type R knob, so they will assume the car already has it.

Its absolutely nothing special, you could probably get yourself down to b&q and pick something up. Take the gear knob down, figure out which threaded rod it fits then get a but that fits it too
