hello all

im going to be changing my set up from an antec 1200 to an sg07 with i5 2500k in there, my questions are....

will my 5970 with the accellero cooler fit?

and what cpu coolers fit the socket type and in there in general? im thinking of the Scythe Shuriken BIG.

last thing is that im going to probably go with the foxconn board because its the only one they have in stock, but do you think its worth waiting/buying from somewhere else? i really liked the look of the asus and ecs boards.

thanks a lot for help

dane

I don't know about the HD5970 with the accelero fitting. The case is easily long enough but if the cooler is wider than double width you'll hit problems.

CPU Coolers - the socket fits the LGA1156 brackets. So just use anything that fits that socket.

Motherboard - Well at the moment none allow overclocking. The Foxconn seems to be an average board, nothing amazing but nothing terrible either. I could tell you to wait but without knowing how long it would be unfair to say. You might find the Asus/Gigabyte boards springing up in retail this month, it might be next. It's going to need a judgement call on your behalf.

Is the accellero cooler the artic cooling one? If it is the one im thinking about then i'm pretty sure that that's a triple slot cooler so it won't fit.
As far as cpu coolers go I'm sure I checked not that long ago and height wise the noctua nh-c12p will fit (I'm not too sure about it interfering with other components.
For the motherboard i'd go with the Foxconn.

Hope this helps :p

What is the point of getting a Core i5 2500K when all the available socket 1155 motherboards currently available use the H67 chipset?? You won't be able to overclock the CPU.

The Intel stock cooler for the socket 1155 Core i5 processors is low profile too.

I think it's to future proof the system. If these rumours of a P67 mITX board turn out to be true, it then doesn't necessitate a CPU change to open up a good overclock.

Especially given that the 2600 and 2600K are so similar in price at the moment.

It would be better to wait until the Gigabyte P67 mini-ITX motherboard is first released TBH otherwise you are wasting money on changing motherboards.

Also, the Core i5 2500K and i7 2600K are still 95W TDP processors and you will still be putting a strain on a mini-ITX motherboard unless you don't have a large overclock.

with it being a h series board do you think it would be better going for the non k processor then, can save some cash, the rig will mainly be used for gaming a lot and a bit of web browsing, not to arsed about overclocking it with it being so small tbh. i just need something more mobile than an antec 1200 =D

To be honest, you won't need to overclock either the i5 2500 or i7 2600, so you may as well save some cash, if you're only gaming/the usual.

Keep the temps in-case down too.

Oh, and here's a pic of the back of the case - so I'd suggest that the Accelero won't fit, unless it only sticks out over 2 slots by something in the region of 3-5mm...
