Hi,

I am wanting my partner to be able to access my iTunes library when she is logged into our iMac. I have followed the 'Share your music with other accounts on the computer' instructions on this Mac support page, but when I go to open her iTunes (whilst pressing the Alt key to choose library) I get the error message "An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder iTunes Music"??

I guess this is the XML file, but in the support instructions it says to leave this in my Music/iTunes Music folder, so it won't be there?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer

:p

To share iTunes libraries..

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder to a shared place and then point iTunes in both accounts to it* :)

*I'm not saying I have any experience doing this, but it should work (the only thing that won't be shared is iTunes preferences, like what codec you rip to and so on, as these are always stored in your home folder)...back up your iTunes folder if you fear anything going wrong ;)

I've not tried this myself, but maybe you could find your iTunes folder > Get Info > Sharing and Permissions and make it accessible to your other account. Then, like Fillado suggested, point the second instance of iTunes to that folder. That way you wouldn't have to create a new folder/move your files.

Let me know if it works.
