Evening all.

I'm in the market for a new system and I'm trying to spec it, but despite working with computers every day I've little to no interest in the hardware. On the other hand I'm spec'ing this machine as a gaming system because I want to get back to some good 'ol fashioned pc gaming. The recent Elite kickstarter and the upcoming Total War 2 (The last time I did any serious PC gaming was when the original came out) had got me all excited, and the chance to boot my xbox out the front room is welcome as I'm fed up with console gaming. ...So anyway, they're the sort of games I'd like to run.

So I've specced this system, and I'd like more experienced opinions to cast their critical eyes over it to see what I've done right and what I've done wrong. By all means offer alternatives to the hardware I've suggested and Do let me know if there are compatibility issues with any of the stuff. Do let me know if the price is worth it!!. (Don't worry about lack of OS I've an MSDN license I can abuse, and Sound card I can buy later, or a monitor - I got a HD tele I plan on using).

CPU Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz Socket 1155 6MB - £164.00
Motherboard Asus P8Z77-V Socket 1155 VGA DVI DisplayPort HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX - £127.97
CPU Fan Noctua NH-D14 - £59.71
Graphics Asus GTX 660 Ti DirectCU II 2GB GDDR5 - £218.22
RAM Corsair 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance Performance Memory Low Profile - £65.39
SSD 120GB KingSton HyperX 3K SSD - £81.00
HD samsung-spinpoint-f3-1000gb-hdd - £59.03
Case Coolermaster Silencio 650 - £88.20
PSU GX Lite 700W - £56.31

Billed at a total of £984.31

This is my first time speccing a system so be gentle with my choices.

Id drop to 8gb of ram. Had 16gb in my build in sig, but tbh it was overkill for gaming. RJC's spec looks great, but you could also save another few quid with this cooler.

Ram.

This would allow you a few more quid to spend on the graphics card.

Thanks, I'll take that into account. I thought 16GB was probably too much.

I think... I really quite like the look of RJC second "550W" system, but with the p280 Idleman recommended. Thanks for all your help on this guys.

I have the P280 sat under my desk and all I can hear is a gentle whirr of the fans, of which i have 6 installed.. And that is unnoticeable during the day. While watching movies on the TV via HDMI, I hear absolutely nothing.

For all the fans that case has, is it worth buying a 600w psu to compensate?
