I recently upgraded my graphics card to a Radeon HD 7850 and started getting random reboots (not blue-screens, just instant reboots). I suspected (and you guys pretty much confirmed) that my PSU was too feeble to power the card, so I upgraded to a 600W Be Quiet! PSU which I installed recently.... However, the random reboots haven't stopped... and I can't figure out what's causing them!
I don't think it's heat related as I've never heard the fans speed up (plus my case is pretty well cooled). It does seem to be stress related.... I think... but it's really hard to tell. If I play Killing Floor (pretty tame) it'll randomly reboot at any given moment (doesn't coincide with any particular "graphically intense" moments either). I've also noticed that Flash (i.e. Candy Crush Saga!) has caused several instant reboots.....! (Using Chrome, so Flash is up-to-date).
I don't want to jump to the conclusion that it's the GFX card at fault, so I'd like to troubleshoot some more before I go down the RMA route.
I've only ever installed the latest AMD CCC software (so there's no chance of a random hash of drivers) although i'm tempted to try the latest beta release to see if that has any effect.
Everything else is pretty much up-to-date on my system (BIOS, chipset drivers etc).
Can anyone suggest anything else I can try to narrow down this annoying issue? Could it possibly be some kind of clash with the (disabled) on-board nVidia graphics?!
Current setup:
Mobo: Asus P5N7A-VM (latest BIOS)
CPU: Intel e5200
PSU: Be Quiet! 600W
Graphics: MSi HD 7850 1GB
RAM: 4 GB
Storage: 256 GB Samsung SSD / 1 TB Hitachi HDD
Really appreciate any assistance!
