Hi. Right, I need a laptop with the following (minimum, I think!) specs before 2nd January:

15.x"-16.x" 1920x1080 LCD
500GB+ HDD
1 GB Dedicated Graphics (eg ATI HD5650 or GeForce GT 420M)
Blu-ray drive
Intel Core i5-460M (2.53 GHz)+

My budget is £800-900.

Ive configured a Dell XPS 15 and added the blu-ray drive (+£90!) and HD screen (+£170!!), and with a 10% voucher, it comes to around £865. The problem is delivery time, as I'm guessing it is unlikely Id get it by Jan 2nd.

On the sony site, I configured an e-series vaio to the above specs, giving a price of £769, but it says 2-3 weeks delivery.

Does anyone know of a laptop with these specs, for a similar price? Thanks in advance for any help

Best advice i think for a Laptop with these types of specs before January 2nd would be to consult your local computer retailers. They might have some in stock if not then they might be able to give you some ideas on similar specced laptops.

Goodluck :)

Cheers for the reply. Im struggling to find any laptops which have the 1080p screen as well as blu-ray drive. Ive seen so many with one or the other, but not both (unless I spend £1200+) - so frustrating! I would have thought a 1080p screen would be standard on a laptop with a blu-ray drive, but apparently not

Sony do the Vaio E, with 1080p screen option and the HD5650. The only problem with them as fas as I'm concerned is they really poor battery life. They are basically replacement desktops, and dont have switchable graphics.

Oh yeah, and the HD 5650 is undervolted (loss in performance, runs cooler). And Sony isn't playing nice in terms of letting you tweak their machines.

EDIT : ignore, you've tried a configuration already.

Ive found a laptop that meets my needs, but I cant find anywhere in the UK that sells it:

ASUS N53JF-XE1 Notebook
Intel Core i5-460M(2.53GHz)
15.6" 1920x1080
4GB Memory DDR3
500GB HDD 7200rpm
Blu-ray combo drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M

$1029

The closest I can find is

ASUS N53JF-SX168V Notebook
Intel Core i5-460M(2.53GHz)
15.6" 1366x768
4GB Memory DDR3
640GB HDD
Blu-Ray combo drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M

£750

Does anyone know if the US model is due to launch soon in the UK?

Don't hold your breath. They don't always supply the UK with their latest bestest tech. I don't know why we seem to never get the fancy screens in the UK (radiance screen on the Envy 14, or this one).

I wanted this model and searched for hours on end to find it for sale in the UK with no success. :(

Here is an offer that has just started on OcUK and look pretty good to me:

Meets all your needs apart from the resolution which in my eyes is better, 1680 x 1050 on a 15.4" screen is perfect, not to small and not to big.

However, battery life is also limited with this, but you will struggle to find anything much better with an i7 and powerful video card.
