help needed to install windows

Need a bit of help

Cant load windows on a new SATA drive.
NTLDR is missing - is first error message.
tried via windows boot disk
gets to promt A:\
what's next?

Edit: or should I say how do i get the sata drivers (three floppy provided by Abit) onto the machine - not used dos in a very long time and have forgotten all the commands :o

should have stuck with IDE much less hassle :rolleyes:

When you boot from the windows disk it will tell you to press F6 if you need to load sata drivers, press it (and be quick because it is only on there a few seconds) then when prompted put the floppy disk in and hit enter, select your sata drivers, then itll continue. HTH ;)
 
Do you mean the floppy boot disk? Don't think a saw that.
If you mean the cd boot disk, I remember a SATA driver prompt the last time I did a fresh install but I can't get that far :(

Is it not possible for you to boot from the Windows install CD (make sure you have the CD drive first in the boot priority list in BIOS)?

Once the install process has started, you will be prompted to press f6 if you need to load (HDD) drivers.

thanks all, can't beleave I missed that :o - sleep deprivation not helpful when configing PC's (or anything else for that matter) but more awake now.

I'll add to this thread if I've any other problems (hopefully not if it's just a driver install)
 
Aha yes! NTLDR is missing. My favourite ever problem.

There is quite a bit of info on the MS website about this, so just type the error message in and you'll see a few answers.

However, in spite of doing a fixboot and rewriting the MBR last time I had to reinstall windows. Oh well. Data is all 'virtual' anyway.
