I've just recieved my new XFX GeForce 6800 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) and have tried installing it, however the image that is shown on the monitor just colured pixel gobbledegook. :(

The card seems to be well fitted in the socket.
As my monitor has a VGA connection I used the VGA to DVI adaptor (as the card has two DVI outputs) and that in turn seems well fitted.
The card is powered up correctly.
I've tried connecting the VGA adaptor to either of the DVI outputs with no joy.

What's wrong?

PS the mobo I'm using is a Gigabyte GA-K8NS (AGP 8x).

I should add that the image is gobbledegook from the moment the PC is turned on i.e during Post. Some of the words are clearly visible, but most is just a mess.

If you only just received the card today, you can RMA through the retailer afaik and not through XFX as it was pretty much dead on arrival

Definitely a borked card, and XFX customer support is rubbish at best.

I hope you get it all worked out painlessly though, they might replace it with something top-notch. ;)

He speaketh the truth, if you bought it within the last four weeks, or maybe more depending on the retailer, you could have this all sorted in a couple of days by ringing them. :)

I bought it here on OcUK.

I ordered it yesterday and it was delivered promptly today.
I would ring their tech support number on 08712 228528 tomorrow, they're open until 5pm on Saturday. :)

They will sort out an RMA number for you so that you can send it back for testing, and they'll send a new one out (or a similar card) in no time if it turns out to be borked.

I'll do just that. :)

Thanks for the feedback Gents.

I'm going to pick up another VGA-DVI adaptor from work tomorrow, just incase the adaptor is the root of the problem.

New adaptor made no difference. :(

Got an RMA number, so will have to send it back myself on Monday.

Didn't know these guys started doing XFX again, they canned em before.
Probably left-over stock ?

On a slightly different note I'm suprised ocuk are stocking Asus 8800's considering Gibbo has ribbed their after support on more than one occasion in the past.

Make sure your motherboard is good enough for it, other than that yeah it sounds broke.

The mobo supports AGP 8x so it shouldn't be an issue.

It's winging its way back to OcUK now, so hopefully it'll all be resolved soon. :)

The card was found to be faulty and a replacement was delivered yesterday.

Great turn-around-time and service from OcUK. :)

My only slight gripe would be that the onus was on me to cover carriage costs to send a card back that was confirmed DOA. Not a major issue though as sent it via wr0k.

Now excuse me while I go play CoD :D
