Hi,

Just wondered if some of you kind people would care to give a frustrated chap a hand.

Basically the problem is this:

My work car is really really sluggish, and it seems to lose power intermittantly, if i put my foot down nothing really happens but then it starts to slowly accelerate.

Its getting to the point where its dangerous to drive because at junctions etc i go to pull out and i dont know if the car is going to accelerate or not.

I should say that the MAF thing has been replaced about 10 months ago as i thought this was the cause but it wasnt, i also changed the pipe that leads from the intercooler to the turbo as it had lost its rigidity but neither of these things has made a difference.

I have replaced the air filter too.

Any thoughts as to what the problem is, its driving me crackers.

Probably shouldn't have bought a tdi if you didn't want sluggish.

Sorry I know that's not helpfull....... Do Vx's have diagnostic connections, I think taking it to a garage and getting that read should be your first point of call if the fault isn't obvious.

lol, thanks for the reply.

Yeah i relaise its not going to set the roads alight but it is my work car, and thats why i got it, its very practical and good on fuel/insurance etc.

Just as en example of how sluggish it is: yesterday driving home from work i struggled to accelerate and overtake a truck after coming off a roundabout.

I know mine is a bit slow if you set off under 1500rpm but once the turbo kicks in its fast enough or try and set off using more revs. can you feel the turbo at about 1800rpm? and whats it like at normal driving speeds? will it do motor way speeds ok?, ive been reading around and ive seen the crank sensor and the Air Flow Meter been talked about. ppl who say its slow because its a diesel do my head in, it can do the same speeds as any normal run of the mill family car and you can only do 70 on the motorway which it will do so whats the problem!.

anyway back to the topic :D if its really bad id think about getting it plugged in to see if theres any fault codes as you might end up just trying to change a lot of things and getting no result. just out of curiosity what year and milage is it

As already suggested, I would go to the dealer and get a diagnostic check done.

Sorry to patronise, but are you sure you're revving it hard enough for the turbo to kick in?

Yes it does get better at around 2000 RPM, and yes i do rev the car hard enough.

Normal driving speeds are fine, it will run up and down the motorways all day, however if you want to overtake anyone im in for the long haul, i plant my foot and nothing seems to happen, then i notice it very gradually increasing speed.
