Hi everyone, I have been lurking for sometime and have found the forum extremely useful. Now it is time to participate and of course ask some questions.

I have quite a bit of experience with overclocking the I7 920 on 1366 P6T MB and currrently run a very stable 4.15Ghz OC with a corsair H50 water unit and 24GB 1600 RAM. Using a good Antec 900 series gaming case with good cooling.

I understand most of the aspects of the voltages, bus clocks etc and have messed around quite a bit with the D0 920.

I am about to take delivery of a new cheap I7 990 xtreme to take my MB to the max it can handle. But my experience of the 990 is limited, well zero.

What would you expect a reasonable stable day to day OC to be ? I would like to aim for around the 4.8Gz mark.

Also, I know it is difficult and depends on your chip, but could anyone give me some basic settings to start out with for the bios. Something low down in the 4.x Ghz region to get me started.

Many thanks and I am searching the forum for my own answers as well

What case do you have?

Antec 900 series, the one with the large 200mm fan on the top, 2 fans on the front, 1 on the back and one on the side

Doing a lot of reading around the net and 4.2 - 4. 4 is common stable with the stock cooler supplied with the I7 990. Probably going to upgrade my H50 to a H80 and add another fan to the radiator. Hopefully I can get a stable 4.6 - 4.8

Just waiting for the chip to arrive now.

Only concern I have is I have read somewhere that the I7 990 will not take 24GB RAM at 1600, only 1033

But I find this hard to believe as my I7 920 OC 4.15 is running 24GB RAM at 1576 (1600 RAM) happily.
