Help needed with a NUC

I purchased a NUC from OCUK last week, I added 2 X 4 GB's Crucial memory and a M.2 250 GB Crucial SSD drive.
I could not connect it up to my monitor as it has a DVI connection.
I ordered a MDP to HDMI, VGA DVI adapter, which arrived this morning.
When I connected my monitor up to the NUC their was no signal to the monitor, so I got an old monitor which has a VGA connector and tried that which also said their was no signal.

The adapter is brand new, is it possible it is faulty or have I missed something basic.

Any advice appreciated.

I took the NUC to the local computer store, they tried it with one of there connectors and it still would not connect to a monitor.
as they had a NUC already set up they took the memory out of mine and put it into the other one and that would not show a picture either, so they tried it with one stick and hey presto it put a BIOS picture on the monitor.
Then they tried the other stick and that also gave a picture.
But with both sticks in it would not give a picture on the monitor, all this was done for free.
On returning home I found the Crucial site freephone number and rang them, I explained the situation to there technician that the sticks individually would boot the NUC but together thay would not.
He explained to me that the Ballistix memory I had purchased was high density and the NUC unit worked best with low density memory, to which I replied why does it only give that choice on your compatibility site to which he replied I will get that sorted.
They are sending me to sticks of low density memory out for the NUC which should arrive today.
So if anyone is thinking of getting a NUC make sure it is low density memory you choose for it.
The low density memory arrived this morning and works perfectly.

Just an update after a few weeks of using the i3 NUC.
It does everything I want and is now my main computer, spreadsheets, no problem, video editing is fast I even tried Wolfenstein which ran 1920 x 1080 with only the occasional artefact but no lag, after a couple of hours the little box was getting warm so I came out of the game and checked the CPU temp which was 68 C, the ceiling for this CPU is 105 C, so it will run the slightly older games with no problems.
I have never heard the fan which cools the CPU even after gaming for two hours.
With the M.2 SSD, it boots to the Win 10 desktop from cold in 12 seconds.
So although not cheap when you factor in the NUC, RAM and M.2 SSD, they are still good value and with only a 15 watt maximum draw under heavy load it will save a fortune in electricity.
