I need some help here, for 2 weeks I have had problems with high latency and periods of very high/unusable latency.

I'm with Zen internet and spoke to tech support and have been speaking to them daily for at least a week, we went through all the tandard things like :

1) reseting router
2) try another router (tried 3 in total)
3) tried connecting directly to test socket with only 1 device connected

etc etc.

In the end tech support were registering it as a fault. However, later they cancelled that as the speed I was getting was within the criteria for my line ie between 0.6mb/s and 8mb/s and therefore they could not log a fault.

Although the speed I'm getting is not as good as it was my major problem is the latency and again today it's unusable.

Below are tracert's I've done today to a wow server, I'm using this as I know the IP address but it's equally as noticibale on simple things like syncing tophies on the PS3.

I did a tracert at a friends house a couple of streets away (who is on BT) and all was fine.

I don't know what any of it means but the amount of *'s don't look good.

Also when I was looking in my Routers Log, there is a lot of DOS reported, about 7 per second. Here's a small list of what's reported :

etc etc. this is constant. I thought this may be cause for concern and may be causing my latency problems but technical support say that it's not an issue ????

So I'm a little stuck now, tech support say the can't see anything wrong and can't log a fault (I've spoken to them almost daily). But I'm stuck with something I can't use properly at the moment.

Any advise appreciated I really don't know how to solve this issue.

Regards

Jason

Well it turns out it was a DOS, I disabled ping responce on my router and the problem went away.

Just a little annoyed with the ISP as they had enabled ping on the router in the first place and when I brought the issue to Tech Supports attention they said it was not a problem and wouldn't be the cause of the issue :(
