Help needed with core temps

Hi all, have just built a new pc (Asus P5Q Intel P45 775 - Dual core E5200 2.50ghz) and when I run Real Temp, core 0 = 52o and core 1 = 31o, why is core 0 so high? Is it an inaccurate reading as when I test the sensors with the same program Core 0 has movement of 0 and core 1 has movement of 5?

I have not overclocked anything so everything is standard, I also have the Akasa AK-965 CPU Cooler. Should I try and replace the heatsink with less paste, although I'm sure I used a pretty minimilistic amount first time!

Also, the frequency part using Core Temp flicks between 1200.04 & 2500.09 (200.01x6.0 & 200.01x12.5), what does that mean?

Anyone have any thoughts before I start opening the case up again? Should core 1 actually be a lower temp or does that seem reasonble? Thanks in advance and sorry if they are stupid questions! :o :)

I see, that speedstep is ok, no panic then :D Will leave it as it is! :)

Core temp program is showing the same temp just 5o lower for each core, I'm a bit worried if I start to OC (which I am planning to do shortly) that I am going to damage the chip if the temps are actally correct? How can I find out if it is actually a faulty sensor?

Will check to make sure I have the latest bios installed, but could that really just not read one core correctly?

Appreciate your replies, thanks :)

I see, I will check to make sure bios is up to date tomorrow then (how do I check just to make sure?) and I think I will re-install the cpu cooler just in case. I will try lapping it if it still isn't resolved, going to really annoy me if the chip has a faulty sensor though :(

Ok well I refitted the cpu, heatsink and applied a new layer of thermal paste, nothing changed, so I flashed the bios and that is now up-to-date. The sensor for core 0 still seems to be stuck on 52o and doesn't move at all (even ran a game and no change happened so I know something is up and it isn't portraying the correct temp).

Should I just forget about it? Seems pretty annoying that I have a stuck sensor and if something happens to core 0's temp I'm not going to know about it :(

Any more help or advice appreciated!
