hi All,

I have an old JVC DV Camera (GR-D239E) I am looking to give to a relative now that I have a newer HD one.. so I am trying to capture all my old content on my PC.

Now, I have it connected with a 1394 link and I have been using ArcSoft ShowBiz, DV Capture and WMM to see which gave the best results.

WMM - only video, and white noise.. so I ditched that.

ShowBiz/DVCapture - worked well when it could see the camera, so I needed to reconnect the cable and power on/off to get it to come up.

But my question is.. None of these 3 progs will see ALL of my tapes.. half them are fine, but the other half plays when initiated in the client, but only a black screen and no audio. These tapes were all recorded on the same camcorder and stored in the same place.. all play back fine on the cam itself.

As far as I can see there are no tape specific settings which could prevent this.

I have some really important personal stuff on this so would be gutted if couldn't capture it, or should I just give up on the 1394 and try using the AV output to a capture card and lose some quality?

thanks in advance

I just tried that Ringo, same problem. The software controls the camera but I just get a black screen on the PC, while it plays fine on the cam :(

Nope.. its very basic on the settings side.. the only half relevant would be Display Priority -> LCD or Finder.. but that makes no difference on the DV output.

And as I said, some tapes work yet others do not, with the same settings on the cam.
