My m8 just phoned me and said he just bought a new case, he shifted all his stuff over to the new case and it won't power up. Says when he pushes the power button the fans pulse but thats it.. He said he tried unplugging the 4pin 12V cable and it powers up, but does not post.. not that i'd expect it to. I never told him to do that!!
Only the case has changed, so i'm assuming he has something wired wrong unless he has damaged something while transfering the stuff.
Any suggestions on what it might be before i make the 24mile round trip to his house?

i would advise him to double check all his connections make sure everything is secure...

whats the spec of his machine?

Asus SLI 32 mobo (heatpipe one) skt 939
X2-3800
Gskill HZ 2x1GB kit
7900GT
Enermax Liberty 500W
Err new case is a thermaltake Kandalf

I think he has risers in the wrong place and their touching the solder on the underside of the mobo, he's away checking now. I asked him how many he put in.. 9 being the most you can physically use, he just said i dunno, lots.

well i was right, thanks for the idea SiriusB of shorting.. he did infact have risers in places he shouldnt and it must have been causing the board to short. Managed to sort it out on the fone so it's saved me the fuel of making the trip.

Cheers for the help.

Moral of the story, don't let idiots inside computers!
