Hi i'm new here, as u can see this is my 1st post.

i know i want a rig for gaming, and i know that i only have £650 to spend, i was hoping that you guys here could give me some advise to get the best i can for my money. i would like this rig to last as long as possible as i've had my current machine for 5 years and i only spent £650 on it then, i would like to get the same longevity out of my new rig, but i have no idea where to start. i know how to build my own, as i re-built my current pc when my MOBO died. i just have no idea on whats good and whats not anymore. 1 thing i don't need is an optical drive as i will poach that from my current PC, so basically i need a whole rig (including case) thats purpose built for gamine for £650 =]

sorry for being n00b with the whole hardware thing

I would get this spec if you had the money to spend tommorow although its probably better if you post again when you have the money as prices drop a lot in a short space of time and things would be cheaper etc and may vary the spec.

Also another thing is if you want it to last 5 years your probably gonna need a copy of Vista especially since it comes with DX10 which all the latest game s all have.

Also, i really do advise on overclocking especially with the Intel Core2Duo chips which overclocks like a dream, its quite a straight forward process and if done sensibly and with paitence can produce a massive performance boost, check out the Overclocking forum and read the stickies. If you do decide to overclock then your gonna need an aftermarket CPU Cooler to get the most out of your CPU but as you said you werent gonna overclock the stock one will be suitable.

Exactly. Like i said post when you have the money and ready to order as a lot of things can change between now and the end of july especially with price cuts etc such as the Intels cpu price cuts.

thanks for the advise guys, i am really shocked at how fast the responses came. i will be upgrading to vista later on as i cant afford both the PC and OS and my current PC wont run vista very well at all so i'm getting the PC 1st, i'll post again sooner the time, i know that the money will be with me on the 21st of July (i love owning shares in a company thats going private =])

Just a heads up on what i'll be going from

AMD AthlonXP 2100+
Asus A7V880 MOBO
Radeon 9600 PRO
1.5GB PC 2700 RAM
2x 90BG IDE HDD's

rather pathetic really lol tho it has served me well, and will be serving my brother after this ;)
