I've been talking it over with my mate and I think at the mo its more wise to go with a 775 chip rather than i7.

Im after a new...

psu
mobo
cpu
fan or water?
gcard
ram...

I've got a pair of 320gb drives ready to be raid'd up so it needs a good mobo

Im mainly doing video editing so I'd be using premiere and after effects lots.

Running vista 64 also.

No real budget but I dont want to be going over £700ish for the above parts and im happy using my old 7800gtx and waiting for a better gcard at a later date.. unless anyone thinks this is a stupid idea but i dont game and i dont think there is major gcard support in premiere yet.

no idea about water cooling and if its even worth it with a 775 chip ive always gone with air... i know the p45 boards run coolish so probobly dont need them cooling...

let me know what ya think :)

oh ive currently got a 6600 clocked with a thermalright cooler on a p5k board and 6gb or ddr2 but its all sold so after something faster, want to make the most out of raid drives and maybe 16gb ddr2 ram to make a ramdisk with say 10gb?

Yeah I've built all my own pc's over the last 10 years I just dont really follow whats worth it at the time ect so just after some quick answers from guys who follow it ;)

I agree with i7 being steep at the mo and its still rather new so i think the 775 is the way to go.

Overclocking.... to a certain degree yep I've got my 2.4 6600 on 3.2 at the mo which is nice and stable.. the stuff I edit is HD format so pretty hefty - if I can get a stable overclock with a water or fan loop id do it, so if there is a certain stepping chip thats deffo worth a look then it sounds good as I could always add the water in the future :)

got to admitt I've never had an ATI card always a Nvidia boy... any reason to go ATI these days? as for that spec its still pretty close to what I had previously isnt it, not sure if thats worth going for?

well if a quad is to similar to what your have and you can afford to upgrade then maybe you should think about the i7 range....

the 4850 is the best midrange graphics card available best bang for buck

Why did you choose that ram mate? at the mo I've got some corsair 1gb x2 and some of that ocz gold stuff 2gb x2.

Just trying to work out why its that price...

does anyone have any opinions on ramdisks with 16gb of that ocz ram?

If you want to include water cooling, your budget is really gonna have to chang..

And with the RAM, its slighty faster speed at 1066Mhz, and is the best DDR2 ram you can get IMO

on your budget i would not advise water cooling unless you watercoll your current system which is pointless because you said it runs fine on air. only consider water cooling for extreme overclocks imo there more trouble than there worth

Im flexible up to 1000 really, just didnt want people quoting me higher on other stuffs :)

still after some 16gb ocz ramdisk opinions?
