Hi guys, needing a little help. I don't have a huge amount of PC knowledge so looking for simple answers

Today i removed the thermal paste from my CPU AND heatsink and reapplied using Arctic Silver tp but have ran into a problem. (My first attempt)

My PC turns on with no display or beeps but the CPU Fan is working. I;m hoping it is something stupid and nothing major so any ideas are welcome.

System

Q6600 (3Ghz)
Gigabyte GA P35 DS3R
8GB OCZ

Make sure the 4/8 pin power connector is in the motherboard properly, also the 24pin power connector is in the motherboard properly aswell. Clear the Cmos by moving the jumper to the next pin, start up, turn off then back to its original state.

Double check the heatsink is firmly connected and check all cards ect just incase you have knocked something.

forgot to connect the 4/8 power connector, connected it up but now the cpu fan don't spin nor front fan:/

Which jumper needs moving, on the 24 pin?

I have no cards connected up atm and am not too sure on the heatsink but all corners clipped in and seems pretty sturdy.

All RAM removed apart from 1 stick. (Tried all 4 sticks 1 at time)

No drives connected apart from Hard Drive.

when the power button is pressed the CPU Fan will sort of twitch for a couple of seconds then nothing :(

ok so you have wiped the bios, tried just one stick at a time of ram, only had the HD plugged in and ahve NO graphics cards installed as yet. further more, you have made sure that your power connectors are plugged in correctly.

Therefore, it can only be either a mobo problem(make sure you have not knocked anthing such as resistors etc) and then take your cpu off once more, make sure its relatively clean and then place it back on the mobo.

Make damn sure it is placed properly and that the heat sink is connected correctly and flush.

Yup thats just about everything, triple checked all connectors needed (using manual also lol)

Cleaned both the cpu & heatsink with ArctiClean than applied the tp thinly, the Arctic cooler was a bugger to clip in and taken me a few attempts but am fairly sure it is clipped. maybe caught the paste when moving about either way i am no good

It can be either a mobo fault or a psu fault mate.
Did you ground your self when you was touching the pc?? (Static can kill your conponments)

yer using the radiator with band

Not sure if any components are at fault as they were working before i cleaned the PC, i think it is my error somewhere in which i have no clue and guessing it is what fastwunz suggested with the heatsink :o:confused:

Maybe get someone else to take a look tomoz and hope for the best, will update you guys with prognosis

Hey guys, update for you.

Taken my PC to my local shop who had the chip and everything working in another PC (goodnews)

Heres the bad news, they could not get the motherboard to work so seems i went wrong somewhere or i didn't ground myself enough :(

Any recommendations on a new board?

Have had quick look at the Asus P5Q Deluxe, any good?

Will PC6400 RAM work the board also thanks.
