Hi guys, I know this is in the wrong forum but my dad has just told me about a problem he has had with him not being able to see the windows vista taskbar, I have tried restarting and also some advice given by a quick google search but hopefully someone on here can help..

Thats what it looks like

Looks like a broken system file.

Open a command prompt as an Administrator [type cmd in the Start Menu search, right click on the program that comes up and click Run as Administrator].

In the command prompt that opens type in sfc /verifyonly and press Enter. This scans all the system files and checks if they are as they should be. If it does find a problem you can run sfc /scannow. This repeats the scan and repairs anything it can but will reset your wallpaper and font settings etc. Hence the reason for using /verifyonly first :)

And this is in the wrong forum, btw! :p

Sounds like corrupt files.
Have you patched Explorer in anyway using those customize tools like UxTheme.
Also update video drivers.
Try creating a new user account and see if it still happens.
I know it sounds daft but I heard screensavers can cause this to happen, the fact there not compatible with the taskbar, so choose a different screensaver or disable it.
