Hi guys

Took the car in for its mot yesterday (53 plate mondeo estate diesel)

This is the list of refusals

nearside stop lamp not working (easy fix)

offside rear tyre has ply or cords exposed (will replace with spare for now)

nearside rear brake pipe has excessively corroded

offside rear brake pipe has excessively corroded

rear (center) brake pipe excessively corroded

offside rear suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (dangerous?)

nearside rear suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement

Ford have quoted nearly a grand for all the work which seems excessive to me.

can anyone shed any light as to whether I would have to replace the bush and suspension arms?

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks

Hilarious that they would quote a grand to repair/MOT one of there own motors just a few years down the line, Has it done 200k or summit ?
I'd go as far as saying they are Robbing ******** & to spit in there eye & take it elsewhere.

Also, Do you park your motor on Grass ?

Malc30

In al fairness it has got quite a lot of mileage on it (165800) but its been serviced and maintained reguarly.

Nope don't park on grass at all.

Then I would just take it to an Indy & get it done for 500 quid or there abouts.

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks

First off, nasty list of failure points for not a very old car, like you state some issues are easy fixes.

Secondly, this demonstrates the total unroadworthy state of some people cars, your best bet is to get a quote from an indy, no point paying Fords prices for the work.

Light and tyre issues aside are you sure its not a garage hunting for aditional work? Might be worth taking it for a free suspension check at ATS and see what they say.

Please check your tyres more often, and do not replace the offending item with a spare.
Replace both tyres on that axle.

Wow, bar the tyres and stop lamp, i'm surprised 3 brake pipes have corroded and 2 suspension bushes have gone in a year (assuming you don't do mega mileage)!

Brake pipes can often be a pain to change and the labour will be quite high for them, bushes i'd estimate at no more than £150 for both. I'd say £400 would be a reasonable price to pay.

I'd be a bit embarassed about having a tyre worn down to that level at the MOT, but as for the other things, as everysaid, go to a reputable indy and see what they say, if it needs doing, it needs doing..

Fix the obvious bits yourself (should have checked the tyres and lights before hand, takes 5 mins really). Once done find you local council MOT station if there are any. They will only do MOT checks and nothing else so they have no reason to pry work out of you and you get a better idea of what's needed.

I tend to get my cars serviced and MOT'd at the same time so the guys can service and check my car before MOTing it and then I don't get any failures or hassle. Maybe just a lighter wallet.

it was primarily in for a service, mot was offered for free when i arrived, otherwise I would have checked the tyres and lights.
Bit embarrassed about the tyre tbh, i've never had one so bad.

i'll also only put the spare on to get it through the mot and replace both rears when i get paid

yeah thats why its going elsewhere now, the mot needs doing anyway.

the spare has to be legal if it is present
