About six months ago, I accidently broke my neighbours fog light on his car,
with my car, as I was parking.
I told him about it striaght away and said I would have course pay for the damage,
- just the fog light itself and a little scratch on the plastic bumper.
His car is a old n-reg ford saloon.

Months went by and I forgot about it as he didnt present me with a bill,
and we have not gone through the insurers.

Now this is where it gets interesting- during the christmas freeze,
he crashed his car into another neighbours house,
breaking the bumper, lights etc. My other neighbour is witness to this,
as am I and Im sure some other people on the street.

My other neighbour called me today when I was at work to tell me
the guy had come round with a bill - He told him I wasnt in and had a
breif conversation where the guy said the bill was very expensive.

I have a feeling hs going to try and charge me for all the damage.

Simple only pay for the damage you did. If he complains show him a photo of the orginal damage.

I don't see how he could possibly pin this on you. If you hit his car months ago and nothing has happened, then how could he possibly prove that you did this?

This. If it were me I'd tell him that I'm prepared to pay for the fog light, if he tried to stick me with the bill for the damage he's responsible for then I'd refuse to pay for anything. Teach the greedy sod a lesson.

If he is willing to do that to you then i would tell him to p off and give him nothing, you never hit his car.

Funny thing is ive not seen the car there since he stoved it in to my neighbours house wall.
My neighbour just called me back and said that you can buy his car on auto trader for about £300,
So effectivley, his car is a write-off.
I think he may have go rid of the car, as there has been a different car there now for some weeks whare he normally parks.
It will be interesting to see this 'repair bill'.

As suggested above I will only pay for the fog light if the bill is itemised, AND if I can see the car as ive not seen it for quite a while.
I just have a nasty feeling about this whole situation...

To be fair it's been 6 months and he's done nothing about it. He's had another accident, in which he was at fault, since and there's a witness to that. There's not a whole lot he can do to get the money for anything out of you unless he's willing to go to court, which he won't be.

If he's going to be that way and has no proof you damaged the fog light besides your word and you have proof he crashed his car say you know nothing about any fog light and he can pay for his own damn crash :)

This.

Get your neighbour to confirm this damage was done when he stacked it into the wall.

Sorted.

I am pretty certain that you only have a set amount of time to make a claim on car insurance, so if it's been months your neighbour hasn't got a leg to stand on.

EDIT:

Limitation Act 1980. For property damage the limit is 6 years! Had there been injury, it is only 3 years.

Looks like I was wrong.

tbh, I'd just deny any accident between the 2 of you.

Just tell him that you aren't happy with how things have been conducted and tell him you want to go through the insurers. Ergo if there is now no car, there is now no claim.
