I got all the bits from OC the other day and finally got round to plugging it all in but nothing works?

There doesnt seem to be any power, although its all plugged it and connected properly.

My PSU was working fine the last time (480W antec) but now nada.

How do I test if my PSU is working?

There is a like a socket at the back which I can connect something to I guess?

either that did I get a dud motherboard?

advice and help appreciated, I cant believe this is happening :(

What happens if my PSU isnt up to the demands? sound fine though

Intel C2D
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
ATi X1950 pro
DMX 6fire sound card
Dlink wireless network card
1 SATA DVD drive

and a few case fans.

Provided the PSU is plugged into the mains then it failing to start (no fans spinning) means the psu is dead. as for the rest of your parts: if they get no power they wont turn on.

arrgggghhh how the heck can it die in a few days when it wasnt used, I unplugged everything and the fan doesnt spin.

thanks good point, so my PSU is dead no fan spinning

is it likely that any of my components will be damaged? guessing that if it died, it might have sent a jolt through the system.

worried now bah will have to go and get a new PSU from PC world tommorrow

I do have a surge protector on my main socket as well so it wasnt due to a power surge.

PSU is 3 yrs old-ish

sigh

Its hard to tell what happend to it, why not try looking at the PSUs FAQ ask for help from the manufacturer? worth a try. There isnt some big off switch on the back that you might have missed is there? :D

yup they only fit one way as far as I can tell due to the shape of the cables.

although I do find it odd that the socket on the mobo is longer by 4 additional slots than the male connector from the PSU, cant remember if this is standard or not

I might unplug this mobo and plug my old one back in and see if it works then.

It only has 22a on the 12v rail, could have struggled to power that x1950 pro and might have given up.

thanks I just pulled it out of my system, no burn marks or anything on it.

is there anything I can plug into it just to test if it works?

I dismantled my old system already so will have to put it all back together again to make it work. (i actualy packed them as well as I was going to sell them)

can i like plug a fan in?

what sort of PSU should I be looking for then? as a replacement

just plug the psu into the mains and turn it on. Sure plug a fan into it and see what happends.

A cheap replacement would be one of the antec earthwatts.

well looks my PSU is dead, getting nothing out of it.

dont see how if there is insufficient power, it dies?

thought it just wont run, but now its completely dead as far as I can tell.

gonna go and see if I can get a good PSU tommorrow, man the costs are rising. i cant seem to find any PSU that states 30A on the 12V though, thats quite high as far as I know.

without buying some ridiculous 1000W beast or similar.

must learn to be patient as well, i just want to get it running

am I just reading it wrong?

it says for PSU the highest I can find is around 18A per 12V, e.g corsair HX530. but it says up to 50A on the 12v rail.

confused.

All current PSUs have more then 1 12v rail. just make sure that the combined amps on all the psus 12v rails = more then 30Amps. Pretty easy to find with any curent quality psu :D

The hx520 is 40a combined the hx620 is 50a combined.
No it's not for crossfire that's a single card requirement 30 a on 12v.
System Requirements

* PCI Express™ based PC is required with one x16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard.
* Connection to the system power supply is required:
o 450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system)
* For CrossFire™: 550 watt power supply or greater, 38 Amps on 12 volt rail
* 512MB of system memory

Thanks for the info. Id expect my 28a 12v psu could just get away with a X1950 pro?

The psu u have only has a 20pin and a 4pin power connector and the motherboard has a 24pin and a 4pin connector is that right?
If so are the 4 pins u left empty in the 24pin slot thw right ones to leave empty?
