Hi everyone, today i finished a new build, and installed Windows XP Pro. Then like an absolute noob, i changed the res of my monitor in Control Panel, and i get the box on the screen saying its not a supported res, with a yellow box and a question mark in the middle.
Now, i cannot get rid of this, i turn my PC off, and back on, it's still there, i turn it off, press F8, and i can still only see this moving box.
I even press ESC to try and enter the BIOS, but that box is still there.

Can anyone help? I see no post message, just this damn box.

I know the parts are wolking fine, as i was in windows for a new minutes before i decided to change the resolution.

Spec: Q6600, BFG 8800GT, 19 inch TFT monitor, Gygabyte mobo, 4gb Geil RAM

Any help would be great.
I don't have a spare monitor at the moment.

You should be able to boot up into safe mode, which will use a standard resolution and low-bit colours...

Basically turn your PC on, and press the F8 key a fair few times during the boot process, hopefully it will boot into safe mode, then you should be able to change your resoloutnio from there i hope, then restart the system.

See if you can do that.

Can you not see the DOS boot up procedures at all???

Have you tried pressing the auto button on your monitor or something, even under the menu of the monitor.

Yes ive tried pressing the auto button, still nothing. I cant see anything on screen untill that moving box saying i selected an unsupported res appears.

I dont at the minute no, i can't believe i made such a stupid error. I hadn't even installed the graphics drivers. This couldnt harm any of my new components could it?

Thanks for the reply.

Do you mean the components should be fine?

I've still got he problem unsolved. And it's annoying the hell out of me!

Do you think that getting hold of another monitor should help?

I was going to suggest that as it was a new install that you should just install again from scratch as there's nothing to lose but it does seem odd that you dont see anything at bootup as even a windows screwup shouldn't affect that.

Cant he simply boot in safe mode, go to device manager right click display adapter right click that and go to unistall driver, when he re boots windows will auto have him at a res of 800x600

Thanks for the reply.

yeah sorry if i wasnt very clear, components should be fine.

crt might be the best bet if you can get hold of one.

power the system up and when you get the box displayed try removing the power plug from the back of the screen then plug it back in see if it resets it.

Right, an update.....

A friend of mine bought a spare 17 inch TFT monitor round today. Everything worked fine on it, no problems, nothing.

So that means my shiny new 8800GT is ok.

Basically, it's a problem with my monitor (it only has the blue coloured output), or the lead connected to the GPU.

Or some crazy clash of settings on my monitor.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone
