Hey, set up my new pc a few weeks ago

however since the first few days I have been getting blue screens

the blue screen goes too quickly for me to see what it says

it says something about Memory Management? I assume this is to do with the RAM?

it happens when I was, defragging, plugging in and out USB devices, and just randomly.

any idea?!

I ahve

  • i7 920
  • Patriot Viper 6gb ram
  • Asus PDE Motherboard
  • OCZ Vertex2 60GB
  • GTX 480

Are you overclocking? If so try with stock frequency. Run some benchmarks. Run memtest.

Do you have other hard disks, I assume that the OS is on the SSD?

Well the cpu was second hand, actually when it restarted it came up with this thing saying

failed to over clock

and then press like f2 to go to default or something, and it just went straight back to normal, havent had this again.

however the cpu clock speed is set to its default speed.

no other hard disks are installed, im sorry this is so vague, i will try and find out what the blue screen says when it comes on next

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Memtest v4.1 download and install on a CD (bootable iso) or memory stick (auto installer). Reboot and let it run, see if you have any errors. You may need to change the boot sequence in bios.

Okay thankyou I am running the memtest as we speak

at first it only done it once so i thought it might just be a one off, over the last 2 weeks its done it once or twice aswell, but today its been doing it like crazy, like 5 times.

just randomly when im surfin the web or playing a game, or taking out a usb stick or something.

I checked all my temps using speedfan, they were all low, except ofcourse the 480 (50degrees)

Can operating systems cause blue screens? would it be worth doing a complete format?

OKAY seriously what is wrong, I have run windows memory diagnostic it said everything is fine, I ran memtest for 30 mins, no errors, I run prime95, no errors.
it has only started doin this a lot today, its done it liek 10 times what the hell is wrong!

I uninstalled my graphics driver, mozilal firefox and a bunch of other software hoping it might help.

now when Im trying to download the new nvidia driver, guess what.. IT BLUE SCREENS RIGHT AT THE END?!?

Hi

I had an almost identical problem with a brand new i5 system. Had loads of different stop errors and bsods. Ran countless checks of various kinds, reinstalled Windows twice. Eventually I took it back to the shop and it turned out to be something to do with the CPU not talking to the mobo correctly. I'm not sure what that means exactly but that was the problem.

Not saying yours will be that but I'd put good money on it. I hope you get it sorted as I know first hand how frustrating it is.

found out it was the RAM after all! after testing each stick until finding the one that caused windows 7 installation to crash.!

Hmm im getting this error also , but ive tryed 4 dirrfent sticks of ram now and its still doing it , altho i think it might be my CPU since i have 55c Idle temps in my Bios......with the side of the case off..

Edit: just an update i sorted my problem , it was due to the CPU and motherboard , the board only supports up to 95w CPU's and i was using a 125w one... so just swaped cpu and all works great.
