I've just upgraded some components. Old system was amd x2 3800+. New system is...

Core 2 duo e6750
4gb ocz gold ram
abit ip35 motherboard.

My pc boots fine and all components seem to be recognised.

However, I'm trying to install an operating system and it just won't work :(

I have vista 64, when I try and install it, it starts by booting off the dvd saying 'windows is loading files onto your computer' but when this screen has loaded, the screen just goes black and doesn't move.

I tried to install xp to see if that worked, it loads the cd and all the required drivers, then gets to the part where is says 'windows is starting' (before the install) and just hangs!!!

What is wrong, anyone?

Thanks

What are the ram voltages set to? Sometimes 4 sticks need a nudge, if you have 2x 2gig they might still need a nudge.

Oh sometimes you have to install the OS with just 1 stick of 2gig or 2 sticks of 1 gig depends what you have then stick the other sticks back in.

Yeah I would try to install with just 2 gig.

If that doesn't work maybe something is wrong with your optical drive? If that's new too, maybe you should try your old one?

Not sure about the voltages but there were default. I'm only using 2gb at the moment also. I don't think that's the problem though as it boots up fine and just won't get past the dvd boot screen, I guess something is conflicting?

I had a problem like this months ago, took me weeks to realise that for some reason no Windows operating system would install with a USB keyboard plugged in.

Although nowadays I have no problem installing with it plugged in.

Meh, it's worth a try anyway buddy.

not sure what the problem is still but I went into the bios and loaded the fail safe defaults and it seems to work now.

Another weird thing is that everytime I turn it on, it turns on for about 5 seconds, then turns off, then turns itself on again. Same when I restart. Seems a bit dodgy to me
