hi all
i received today my new ram
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-060-GS

i got 2 of these kits (so 4 x 4gb) and i have a asrock fatal1ty m/b

however using 3 sticks works fine recoginse 12gb and boots etc.

however when putting the 4th stick in the pc wont boot etc ive tried swapping the chips and using different slots (so i know all chips are ok and all slots are ok) why is my pc having an issue with the 4th stick of ram ??

i think the error code on the m/b is 45

Well it is possible that the RAM module is faulty.

What exactly happens when the stick is in? Does the computer post and then crash at the Windows loading screen? Or does it not turn on at all? Or something else?

ive swapped the stick around and it doesnt appear to be a single stick (nor does it appear to be a single slot on the board) just seems that it doesnt like having 4 sticks in. what happens when 4th stick is in. i power on pc and get no video output at all. i take a stick out (any stick) and power on and get video output and boots into windows fine

So there is no particular stick or slot? Just 4 sticks makes it fall?

Are you running with an OC? Try running at stock speeds.

What make and model PSU do you have?

hi well i changed the settings made no difference... :(
what i have noticed tho is that the gskill ram chip does not detect in slot one. tried different chips all the same but they all recognise in slots 2,3 & 4. (when i had chips in 1,2,3 it just detected single channel mode (and didnt see the chip in slot 1)
now the ram i use to have in was 6gb (3 x2gb chips) of patriot ddr3 1600 pvt36g1600elk ( ithink it was tri) anyway putting that into slot 1 with the gskill in 2,3,4, it detected it (so i had 14gb in total 2gb,4gb,4gb,4gb)
so that eliminates a fault with the slot and a fault with a particular chip so what on earth is wrong with it ??? accarding to asrock website/ mb manual this exact module of gskill ram is supported (upto 4 chips) so im at a loss

slot not faulty as i had the gskill in slots 2,3,4 and tried another brand in slot 1 and it detected that ok. i contacted asrock who suggested updating bios(which i have) and then contacting gskill.

buzzlightweight. you mean the brand of board itself of crap or i just have a dudd board? did you ever resolve your issue? you have same issue or other?.. i was always told whats i really good/ popular board which swayed me into getting it :(

Could be because the memory lanes run close to the cpu, and if the cooler is over tightened it causes distortion and may produce this code due to pressure on the board.
The other thing is to remove cooler and cpu check for bent pins, thermal paste ect. As the memory controller is on the CPU, it's most likely a problem with either how the CPU is mounted (or it could be too much heatsink pressure) or bent pins in the socket.

i just tried some kingston ram today and no difference
a single chip works fine in slot 2,3,4 but in slot 1 no boot
3 chips fine in slot 2,3,4
4 chips in slot 1,2,3,4 no boot
2 chips in slot 1,3 = single channel only detecting slot 3

but putting the 2gb chip of patriot ram in slot one detects it fine. so thinking there def issue with slot 1 not liking anything over 2gb.

so regarding the cpu do you suggest
a) losening 4 bolts and see if that help? if not..
b) taking the block off and cpu out and refitting all again? is there anything i could look for / physically see on the board for any issue?

really peeing me off now.
(gonna have quite a bit of ram to sell soon) lol :(

all fixed now was a issue with the board it had been shorted out ( i think may been my fault) the board is a really good board and looks good to dont let me issue sway you away
